—Equal parts road grit and urban fantasy, this book is perfect for a quick summer read. If I hadn’t been in the middle of moving to a new apartment while reading it, I would have read it cover to cover in one sitting. Miriam isn’t your typical femme fatale: from one page to the next she succeeds in breaking that dusty mold—she is more edge, more insolence, and far more piss and vinegar. The bad guys are truly sinister—China Mieville (master of bad guys, imho) would be hard pressed to draw such well-rounded wickedness in so few pages. Also worth mentioning is the brilliant cover art.
The second book of the trilogy, Mockingbird, is due out at the end of August and I can’t wait. It will be the perfect round-out to the end of my summer.
